Grant Me The Courage…To Step Away From My Computer!

Posted by Bryan on Jul 28, 2010 in Blogging

Is Social Media addictive? I’m beginning to think so. I mean, it’s not THAT bad…. yet. It’s not like I can’t walk away from the keyboard any time I choose. Hmmm, wait a minute. I wonder if I really can?

Walk away that is. Like if I really had something important to do, I’m sure I could push the keyboard aside and take care of whatever it is I need to get done first, then resume whatever I was doing prior to the interruption. Did I just say interruption? That almost makes it sound like my regular life is getting in the way of my life on the Internet.

Is it possible to have two separate lives, one online and one off? Come to think of it, that already sounds weird to think about even having an online life. Well, maybe not that weird. I mean, basically everything that you need to do these days can be done on the computer. From Banking to paying bills, buying shoes to books, food to furniture, it’s just about all online now. In fact, there’s pretty much nothing you can’t do on the computer these days.

Excuses Are For Amateurs…MY Reasons Are Legit!

Posted by Bryan on Jul 27, 2010 in Life

Excuses, excuses, excuses. No mistake about it, we ALL use ‘em. Whether we like to admit it or not, we find ways each and every day to slip ‘em in wherever they’re needed most….to fit US.

Oh sure, we tend to attempt to disguise them as reasons but deep inside, we know the truth. They’re just a BS way of gettin’ in, out or around something. Something we did, didn’t do, should be doing or shouldn’t be, but any way you look at them, they’re just an escape of sorts.

From Disaster…. Comes Opportunity

Posted by Bryan on Jul 26, 2010 in Life

Yes, believe it or not, disaster does create opportunity. Now, you may be saying to yourself, that statement sounds utterly ridiculous and not too long ago I might have been inclined to agree with you.

I mean, really, how on earth can a nightmare come to life turn out to be a gift in disguise? Basically, it’s because what we have isn’t always what we need, despite our thinking to the contrary.

We’ve all heard the saying, “Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.” Well I was never a big believer in this theory but as of late, I’ve come to understand it better and it’s quite possible that there may actually be some truth to it.

The Fine Line Between Prayer and Reality

Posted by Bryan on Jul 12, 2010 in Life

Although this is a bit off the beaten path for my blogging, I have to admit that this is a topic that has struck a nerve with me and therefore, at the risk of offending, even losing a few of my beloved readers, I feel strongly enough about it that I’m going to voice my opinion. Take it or leave it, for better or worse and all that good stuff.

Politics and Religion, two topics that I know better than to even mess with. As they say, “Don’t EVEN go there!” But, despite my better judgement, I’m goin’ there.

Maybe My iPhone Just Ain’t That Smart?

Posted by Bryan on May 20, 2010 in Technology

I’m not exactly sure what’s goin’ on here. I mean, aren’t these iPhones supposed to have a mind of their own, to be the best thing since sliced bread? Jeez, I can’t even believe I just said that. Sounds like something my Dads Dad would have said. But you get the point.

When I got my iPhone, I was under the impression that they were the most incredible invention ever. They could do just about everything you ever wanted [with the correct Application downloaded, of course] except wash dishes or do laundry.

Seemed as if everywhere you turned, somebody was touting all of the wonderful ‘things’ that could be accomplished and all of them in the blink of an eye. Clever marketing? I’d hate to think I fell for that stuff but it’s a distinct possibility. Typically I’m smarter than that but maybe they slipped one in under the radar on me.

Don’t get me wrong here. For the most part, I love my iPhone. From the sleek styling to the ultra smooth Touch Screen, this baby has winner written all over it. And I’m by no means a Tech Geek but it would be hard not to want one of these phones, based on looks alone.

In fact, if the Porsche Design Group ever ends up building a Concept Phone, I would think there’s a pretty good chance it’s gonna look very similar to Apples Smooth Talker.

Speaking of Techie, I won’t even begin to claim that I have 1/1000th of an idea of all the things this baby will do. I’ve never even been to the “App Store”, don’t know the address or the phone number. I’m not sure if they have one at the Mall or not but I have enough trouble workin’ the buttons it came with, why the hell would I want to add more gizmos?

I previously had a Nokia that worked really well. Bluetooth capable, nice and compact, never a dropped call, in essence the perfect phone. Then why on earth did I get rid of it you might be asking? Wasn’t cool enough? Behind the times? Nope, none of those.

I never got my iPhone to keep up with the Jones’. I’m not one to care about that sort of thing, which might sound a bit strange at this point because the main reason I bought it was because it was compatible with the ‘Hands Free’ Bluetooth System in the car I had at the time.

I’m NOT One Of THEM, AM I?

Posted by Bryan on May 6, 2010 in Life

Nearly impossible to explain. It’s like some kind of an invisible forcefield, kinda Star Trekish, drawing us in. Go to the light, Go to the light! “Go to the light? What light?” Ohhh, THAT light! That giant laser beam that’s pretty much blinding me. OK, OK, I’ll go!

Seemingly mesmerized, under the spell of some hidden Sorcerer [who goes by the name of Sam], like helpless lemings being pulled by an inexplicable force to a land of endless treasures and bountiful beauty. Somewhere under the rainbow of dreams.

A place where you can have anything your heart desires. For the ladies it could be a marvelous Louis Vuitton purse or a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes, perhaps a new Armani Suit or a Rolex Submariner for the guys. Heck, there’s even tons of goodies for the kids. From 9 months to 90 years old, there’s a guaranteed treasure for everyone. Well, at least according to the commercials anyway.

And to make this relentless abundance of goodies even more enticing is the fact that each and every one of them is guaranteed to have the lowest prices in the universe. The ‘deals’ here just can’t be beat. By anyone, anywhere. Again, that’s what I’ve been lead to believe and since I saw it on TV, it’s gotta be the truth. Right?

As I struggle to get my head to turn a bit left and right [I'm being pulled towards the light so forcefully that it's difficult to turn my head] I begin to notice all the excitement and anticipation on the faces of all the anxious shoppers. I thought I was the only one dying to get inside. Apparently they feel the same way, each of them looking for that ‘one of a kind find’, that special ’something’ that will make the trip oh so worth it.

Good thing this parking lot is so huge, what with all the treasure seekers scrambling for a spot. That’s when I notice a giant section off to the east side that seems to be filled with ‘lifers’, those that choose to bring their campers and motorhomes. Jeez, they must REALLY love a bargain if they have to live here. Perhaps they need a 12 Step Program?

Alright, almost inside. I’m shaking so badly at this point, I just can’t wait to get in there. What’s with these people, why would they grab a shopping cart BEFORE they even get inside? Seems stupid to try and get that thing through the door when everybody is gonna be squeezin’ through as it is.

That’s when it dawns on me. What if they’re out of carts on the inside? I did see a guy way off in the distance with a giant ‘train’ of carts and he was heading towards the entrance. All I can do is hope he gets there in time or there’s bound to be a riot of some kind.

Alright, made it through the first set of doors. First set? Huh? Why do they have two sets of doors? Maybe it’s to catch the ‘bad guys’ that try to steal all the expensive trinkets waiting inside. Keep moving, mussst….get….in…side… ahhhhhhh, made it through door number two and I still have my shoes on. Life is good.

Does A Tramp REALLY Need A Stamp?

Posted by Bryan on Apr 27, 2010 in Life

What is it about a simple little tattoo that can create so much controversy? Whether you love them or hate them, it’s pretty much guaranteed that everyone has an opinion about them. And a rather strong one at that.

Does it really classify a woman as a Tramp, a Slut, a Sure Thing? I would have to think that there are many other ‘qualifications’ that need to be met before one can be placed into that elite category.

Ummm, I THINK I Can Help You Over Here!

Posted by Bryan on Apr 22, 2010 in Goals, Writing

WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE? I just can’t figure this out! Seems like every time I turn on the TV, another Bank has been robbed. Or at least another ‘attempted’ robbery. Seems like most of them don’t get away with it and those that do make it out the door end up with a bag full of blue dye.

Now, I realize that times are tough and people have to do what they have to do to survive. Please don’t take this the wrong way, I’m in NO WAY condoning ANY type of illegal activity. Not whatsoever. In fact I couldn’t be more against it.

If You’re Gonna Dream…. DREAM BIG!

Posted by Bryan on Apr 21, 2010 in Goals

FINALLY! And I gotta say, it’s about time. I was beginning to wonder if it would EVER happen again but fortunately for me, it did. After all the time I spent searching for it, I finally found that ’spark’ again, that elusive ‘trigger’ that would reignite the fire within me. The ‘fuel’ necessary to keep the dream alive, allowing me to remain focused on achieving my goals. I found my WHY.
